Spring quarter has treated me fairly well thus far. It's had its ups and downs but so far the ups by far outweigh the downs.
Two weeks ago we went to Myrtle Beach for the quidditch World Cup. And it was amazing. There are way too many details to recount here (it was a very busy 4 days) but I got to celebrate Kayl's 21st birthday with him which was great. Wizards didn't do very well but we had a few really great games. UCLA kicked ass (as usual).
Our last game was.... something. We knew we weren't going to make it into bracket play so we just kinda messed around. AKA Zach and I (both beaters) basically yelled and made war cries the whole game that entertained basically everyone in the stands as well as the other team. My favorite moment from the game was when Zach ran up to their male beater, got into his face and yelled "NO!" and the dude dropped the bludger, dropped his BROOM, and ran back to his hoops. Without his broom. Then subbed out and didn't come back in the rest of the game. It was incredible.
It makes me very thankful that I decided to join quidditch here. I almost didn't and I can't even imagine what my freshman year would have been like without it. Having this opportunity was so great and the people I've met are even greater.
There are also pictures! I brought my GoPro but I'm dumb and didn't use it as much as I should have. And the battery was dead during the second day so there's that.
Luckily we had someone from Team Sports with us (Chett was so awesome) to take pictures. He caught some pretty glorious moments.
So beautiful. One of the coolest parts of World Cup (personally) was the trading card. There's a team from Utah that takes in submissions and 7 people from each team get their own trading card that people who buy cards at World have the potential to get. And I gotta say mine was pretty rad.
Some people wait for years to get one so I feel pretty lucky to have gotten one my freshman year.
I am currently still in post trip depression so writing this is making me sad. It felt so short and I wish I wee still there so I wouldn't have to worry about school (I took my first midterm of the quarter this morning... ew) and so I would just be able to play quidditch every day. Sigh.
