Last week was full of a lot of emotion and a lot of really amazing things. Some were much more wonderful than others, but each day seemed to bring something new and awesome.
Monday: I kinda jumped out of a plane at 10,000 ft. Skydiving is a lot less terrifying that I thought it would be, and I'm really happy I didn't wimp out. Plus I got some sweet shots of me having a hell of a lot of fun plummeting to the Earth at terminal velocity.
Tuesday: I found out that a geofilter I submitted to Snapchat is actually being used in the app, which is really awesome considering my graphic design skills are incredibly limited.
Wednesday: I went and saw Twenty One Pilots for the 4th time with Kayl, and while he spent a lot of it being mad at the girls next to us that were screaming more than I thought was humanly possible, I still had a lot of fun, Seeing them live is always a treat, and it's lovely how passionate and humble they are about what they do and their incredible success.
Thursday: So. This one is a doosy. You know those scholarship websites that seem like scams that give you links to all these scholarships you can apply to that are little to no effort? Well, over the summer I participated in a week-long scavenger hunt of sorts, where each day I had to complete a different task that is geared toward "making the world suck less", including one where I sent a little activity book to a hospital for children.
Last Thursday, Kayl told me he was going to cook us a really nice dinner to celebrate it being almost a year since we've met. He came downstairs to come get me when it was "ready", and he told me that he was going to have his little record my reaction to it because it was going to be that spectacular. So I went upstairs with him, and he led me to his door where there sat a camera case with a letter on top of it. At first, I thought it was his little's camera case, so I wasn't too confused, but then he motioned to pick them both up. So I opened the letter, and inside was a note that honestly, I thought was a joke at first.
It said something along the lines of "Congratulations! You have been chosen to receive our $10k scholarship! Be sure to document all your friends adventures with this gift from us! Thanks for making the world suck less!"
Holy. Shit.
So in the span of about 10 seconds, I learned that I won $10,000 to go toward school and a beautiful new Canon EOS Rebel SL1. Kayl had me watch a video made by a few of my friends and the people who awarded me the scholarship and I started crying because of how freakin' overwhelming it was.
Then, he had me open the door, and inside was basically the entire quidditch team to congratulate me with a rendition of happy birthday, but with the word "scholarship" instead of "birthday". Apparently, basically everyone on the team had known about this for months, and they all wanted to surprise me with the news (and a pizza party).
Seriously, talk about overwhelming in the best way possible. It feels to great to know that the people here at school are my family and are willing to come together to celebrate something so ridiculously lucky happening to me. I'm honestly still trying to process that this whole thing actually happened.
Friday: First official quidditch practice of the year, and finally getting to see everyone on the team after a whole summer apart (even though I had seen 99% of them in the first week of being here).
Saturday: I got to be Tip Woman again for the first time this year, and Corey had his birthday party where we played stupid games and I got to watch my friends be drunken idiots :)
Sunday: Open Practice, aka meeting a gajillion new freshmen interested in quidditch. Very busy, and very cool to have people looking up to me for help.
So yeah. I know I'm really really bad at keeping this blog up to date. I doubt anyone reads it anymore but that's okay. School is going well so far, and despite our apartment having a slight cockroach problem, I love it here. Westwood is treating me very well so far this quarter, and I can't wait until we start to see who all the quidditch freshmen really are. FRESHBERGSSS
